Description
The Hepatitis B vaccine provides active immunity against the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), which causes a potentially life-threatening liver infection. The vaccine contains non-infectious, recombinant DNA-derived hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).

Dosage Schedule
For Infants: Three doses are given at birth, 6 weeks, and 6 months. For Adults: Three doses are given at 0, 1, and 6 months. Alternative accelerated schedules are available for individuals at high risk.

Contraindications
- Severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine or any of its components (e.g.
- yeast).
Additional Information
- The Hepatitis B vaccine is one of the first vaccines recommended universally for all newborns
- ideally administered within 24 hours of birth. It is often combined with other vaccines
- such as in pentavalent formulations (DTP-HepB-Hib)
- to simplify immunization schedules. Recommended for healthcare workers
- individuals with chronic liver disease
- and those at high risk of HBV exposure.
Storage Requirements
- Store at 2°C–8°C (36°F–46°F). Do not freeze. Protect from light.
